I really hate to use the words “Contactless Gift Giving” in conjunction with Christmas. Christmas should always be about being together with the ones you love. But this holiday season is going to be different than any other one in our lifetimes.
Navigating the holidays during the COVID-19 Pandemic will be a little tricky, to say the least. Our family has decided, for the safety of everyone, that we will not get together on Christmas Eve….sigh….. We usually draw names, but this year we will for-go that tradition, as well, to reduce the amount of shopping that everyone has to do.
Here are 3 ideas to consider for fun, but contactless, gift giving.
- 20 Things I Will Miss About Christmas 2020
Since our family won’t be getting together to exchange gifts, we are going to send special Christmas cards and include a personalized list of the “20 Things I Will Miss Most About You” this Christmas. You might think 20 sounds like a long list – but you may be surprised at how many things you’ll come up with! OR – You could also choose to write a count-down Top Ten list instead, David Letterman style.
Taking the time to be still and think about your family member(s) is a gift in itself for the writer. And it is sure to warm the heart of the receiver.
You could make your list for one person (if you are drawing names) or for the entire family. Here are just few of the things I’m planning to write in my card for someone in my family….
20 Things I Will Miss Most About Christmas Without You in 2020
- Your crazy wit 🙂
- Hearing the screams and laughter when you scare my nieces and nephews!
- Passing you the strawberry butter at the dinner table.
- Hearing you say sweet things about my sister.
- Being a witness to how much your grandkids love you!
- Guessing how many different desserts you can fit on the same plate!
2. Sock It To Me! Christmas
Draw names with your family members, but the difference this year is that everyone agrees to purchase socks only. There are so many unique socks available online! You could give funny socks, warm and cozy socks….or do an early swap and give Christmas socks. You can shop online from home and have the socks shipped directly to your recipient. Or slip them in a padded envelope and send them yourself. Easy-Peasy!
3. A Very Merry Christmask
We all know that wearing masks is the smart and considerate thing to do anytime you are in the presence of others. So why not add a little fun to this wardrobe essential and give a hand-made holiday-themed mask? If you don’t personally know someone who is making masks, just visit Esty.com or do a search on Facebook Marketplace. Not only will you be giving a gift of safety for your loved one, but you are supporting a local crafter or artist. That is something that I always love to do!
Masks are small enough to slip inside your Christmas card. Here are some cute ones I found while browsing Etsy:
I’m sure you can come up with many other unique ideas for your Covid Christmas. Feel free to share your ideas with me!
