As the seasons change, so do our closets.
I’m sure many of you perform the same ritual as me, at least twice a year: transfer your Spring/Summer wardrobe to another closet or storage area and pull out your Fall/Winter clothing and shoes – and vice versa.
As I was changing out my closet for this season, I made this video to talk about simplifying your wardrobe and to discuss the benefits of Project 333.
Project 333 was created, out of necessity, by Courtney Carver in 2010. She was looking for ways to eliminate stress and simplify her life after receiving a diagnosis of a serious health condition.
She decided to try an experiment: reduce her wardrobe to just 33 pieces to wear for 3 months. She noticed a sense of freedom and less stress in doing this and has been dressing with 33 items ever since!
Here are the guidelines for Project 333.
Choose 33 items to put in your closet. These include:
- Clothes
- Shoes (This made me cringe!)
- Outerwear
- Jewelry
- Accessories
NOT included in the 33 items:
- Undergarments
- Sleepwear and lounge wear
- Work-out clothes
- Working-around-the-house/garden clothes
- Wedding ring and one other piece of meaningful jewelry
Tips for choosing your items:
- Select only the items that you love and fit you well
- Choose a handbag that you can carry with any outfit
- Select items that you can mix and match
- Choose your favorite go-to jewelry
In my video I explain how Project 333 is not just about simplifying your wardrobe, but simplifying the choices you make every day and eliminating decision fatigue.
You don’t HAVE to get down to 33 pieces to see the benefits of Project 333. This challenge is intended to help you find what is ENOUGH for you. I discovered a big difference in my closet when I pared down to 55 items. I plan to reduce my number a little bit each season. (I have another video about simplifying your closet – you can see it here.)
IMPORTANT TO NOTE: You DON’T have to let go of the ALL clothes you do not include in your 33 items. Just pack them away or hide them in another closet out of sight. (Hopefully in time, you will see that you can declutter several items.) Then experience the Difference in Dressing With Less!
Here are a few of the benefits you may experience:
- No more feeling guilty about clothing that you paid a lot for, but never end up wearing
- Learn which clothes you love to wear
- Save money!
- Find meaningful ways to spend the extra time you have now that you’re not going shopping for 3 months
- Notice how good it feels to open your closet and know that EVERY single item is a great option
- Invite a friend to take the challenge with you – it will be fun!
- Delight in the visual joy of seeing space between your hangers!
- Reduce decision fatigue – it’s a real thing, ya know!
- Be open to allowing this experiment of creating free space to guide you into simplifying more areas of your home AND your life!
I hope YOU will try this experiment too.
As always, remember to Keep It Simple!
xoxo Angie
